I have been taking pottery and ceramics classes at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center this spring trying to carve out at least one day to connect and create art. It is difficult for me to find and dedicate that time with my busy schedule; I know many of you are the same way.
Anyway, I decided to dedicate this session to making items for the garden and home. One of the projects I have been working on is a set of custom garden markers for the various herbs in my garden. I am not a big fan of wooden tongue depressor style markers, I also do not care to use the plastic ones. I looked in stores and online for markers with a little more style and couldn’t find anything that suited the look I was going for, so I decided to try my hand at making my own.
I like how these turned out. I think I am going to refine my technique and style in the coming months and make a few sets of these in different colors and with different items on them (flowers, vegetables, and more herbs).
I really like creating art, making it functional and most of all, using natural materials like clay and pigment glazes.
